Integrated
Pain Relief Therapies is an effective, innovative manual
treatment that involves both neuromuscular and manual lymphatic
drainage therapies.
Neuromuscular
Therapy
Much of the pain we experience is directly related to the
soft tissues—the muscles, tendons, fascia, and ligaments.
When the body is out of alignment, certain muscles are shortened
and contracted, contributing to the distortion. Other muscles
are lengthened beyond their normal limit, actually weakening.
Yet, when weight-bearing, these weakened muscles must contract
very hard to keep the individual upright. Either group can
complain loudly depending on the individual circumstance.
In
neuromuscular therapy, posture is evaluated to ascertain
where the contributing imbalances lie. Individual muscles
are then specifically targeted and treated to help restore
balance.
Manual
Lymphatic Drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage therapy is a gentle process of
detoxification for the body. The blood circulates in healthy
tissues removing toxins which are the normal byproduct of
cell metabolism. In tissues that are ischemic, or blood
deprived, these toxins accrue in high quantities, serving
to irritate nerve and muscle fibers. MLD gently removes
the built up toxins and excess water, processing them through
the lymph nodes, helping to make the tissues healthier.
As the muscles are treated, normal blood flow is restored
providing the nutrients and oxygen essential for the healing
process.
Another
benefit of manual lymphatic drainage is the way the slow,
gentle, rhythmic stroke anesthetizes nerve endings. As the
nerves quiet and calm, muscles that maintain excess tone
are allowed to lengthen, assisting in normalization of the
tissues.
Together,
neuromuscular therapy and manual lymphatic drainage marry
beautifully, creating a method of treatment that respects
the pain experience of the patient, promotes a healthy reintegration
of the patient with the body, and assists the body in a
return of normal, pain-free function.
Is
Linda’s Therapy safe for Cancer Patients with Pain?
Yes! Blending the two modalities, Linda continues to treat
people in pain and dysfunction, as well as those suffering
the effects of cancer and its treatment. She is particularly
excited about providing relief in a safe, appropriate manner
for those undergoing cancer treatments. Many forms of therapy
are inappropriate for those with, or at risk for, lymphedema
because of increased blood filtration. Using the manual
lymphatic drainage techniques, Linda provides safe, effective
relief from pain and dysfunction, without exacerbating the
condition.
