What
is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy
is a holistic treatment utilizing essential oils from
plants to create balance and harmony to the body,
mind and spirit. The essential oils are extracted
from the flowers, roots, leaves, resins, roots or
seeds of the plants and are 70% more powerful than
the plant s they were extracted from. The essential
oils can be used in massage, diffused in the air,
hydrotherapy, pedicures, scalp treatments, and spa
therapies.
What
is Clinical Aromatherapy?
Clinical Aromatherapy is a holistic body therapy using
essential oils to bring about a deep sense of well-being
After a consultation your therapist will customize
an aromatherapy blend specific to your needs. A specialized
Aromamassage with lymphatic massage,
reflexology and guided imagery will bring about a
deep sense of peace and tranquility.
What
Are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are the life force of the plants.
They are like the hormones of the plants and thus
regulate the plants. They are extracted from the plant
matter by a distillation process. They have antimicrobial,
oxygenating, hydrating properties.
What
are the Benefits of a Clinical Aromatherapy Body Treatment?
Essential oils are readily absorbed through the skin.
There is an immediate psychological effect form the
presence of the aroma as well as the more lasting
effects of the oils on the body through skin absorption.
Custom blended oils can be individualized to your
needs and help on a physical as well as psychological
level. Physical massage relaxes tight muscles improving
skin tone circulation and lymph flow. Lymph massage
calms the body by lowering parasympathetic activity
and also cleanse the tissues of wastes. There is a
healing benefit to the body, mind and spirit. A gentle
relaxation is experienced during and after the massage
which revitalizes the entire system.
Renewed energy and vigor are experienced. Imagery
and visualization helps to reprogram negative thought
and emotions.
How
Does Aromatherapy Work?
People respond to the sense of smell on an emotional
level more strongly than any other sense. For example,
a single aroma can trigger a whole string of forgotten
memories. The area of the brain associated with smell
is the same area as that associated with memory. The
olfactory nerves are located within the nasal cavity
and respond to particular aromas. They send the information
to the part of the brain where memory and emotions
lie. This area connects with another part of the brain
(hypothalamus and pituitary gland) which governs our
hormonal systems.
These
aromas trigger a variety of chemical actions within
the body, including the release of specific chemicals:
Because
the olfactory nerves are a direct extension of the
brain's limbic system, reaction to smell is relayed
immediately.
The
essential oils also affect the body on a physical
level. Each essential oil has distinct therapeutic
properties that affect the body's natural functioning.
These oils can possess any variety of stimulant, anti-infectious,
anti-inflammatory or relaxant properties.
In
the professional practice of Aromatherapy, essential
oils are applied in a variety of ways including massage,
ointments, lotions, baths, liniments, compresses and
inhalations. The holistic application of the oils
is geared towards the needs of the individual. Aromatherapists
are trained to recognize that each individual requires
a unique blend of essences.
How
Aromatherapy Can Help?
As we inhale the essential oils, there is a direct
link to the limbic system of the brain via the olfactory
nerve. This triggers the secretion of neurotransmitters
such as seratonin or encephalins which relax or uplift
the spirits.
Aromatherapy
can thus help with stress management by a direct link
to the limbic and autonomic system. The hypothalamus
is the major control center of the autonomic nervous
system. It controls the sympathetic and parasympathetic
divisions which activate the "fight or flight"
adrenaline production.
Utilizing
essential oils can balance the emotions and uplift
the spirits.

Dear
Linda-Anne,
Thank
you for giving mom some relief and loving "touching".
She thought you were a wonderful lady.
Tenderly

Dear
Linda Anne,
I
want to once again thank you for your incredible warmth
& support. I can’t really explain how much you
have helped - just knowing someone cared enough to
listen, helped immeasurably during an incredibly scary
time.
And
now I "won" a massage! I am so ecstatic
and sooo looking forward to this treat - I even called
my mom and every friend to exalt! Really, that was
a kindness above and beyond the call of duty. I wish
I knew another way to say "thank you" because
the words just don’t seem enough.
I
didn’t know how I could possibly re-pay you. These
cookies come from my heart - if you remember when
you gave me the lymphatic massage, I told you that
you had brought me back to a "good place"
since you had made me smell like my mother’s old orange
oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I know you don’t eat
sweets, but at least I made these with brown sugar
only, and with organic eggs and oatmeal. Maybe you
can eat just one?
With
many thanks, love, & sincerity,
Sophia
